THCa FAQs

Here you will find answers to the most common questions asked about THCa. If you still need help, reach out to our team by email.

What is THCa?

THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in raw cannabis. It is the precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and is converted into THC through decarboxylation (heating).

Will THCa products get me high?

Yes, products containing THCa will convert to Delta 9 THC through the process of decarboxylation (applying heat). Most of our products are not selected to ""knock your socks off"" but rather be incorporated into your lifestyle. Normal doses will have lighter effects and will generally bring levity and calmness without overwhelming you. Some products are very potent and should be consumed with an intentional set and setting for the best experience. You can read the Staff Notes section of the product page to get our personal notes on the effects. If you don't want any psychoactive effects, choose CBD products and those without THC. Contact us to help you select the product that's right for you.

How does THCa differ from THC?

THCa is the acidic, non-psychoactive precursor to THC. THC is the psychoactive compound that produces the "high" associated with cannabis, while THCa does not produce this effect in it's raw form.

Is THCa legal?

The legal status of THCa is complex and varies significantly by jurisdiction. In the United States, the 2018 Farm Bill legalized the cultivation and sale of cannabis and hemp-derived products, provided they contain less than 0.3% THC by dry weight. This bill has led to the legal proliferation of hemp-derived products, including those containing THCa, provided they meet the stipulated THC threshold. However, the legal landscape is not uniform across all states. Some states have more stringent regulations and do not differentiate between THCa and THC, treating all cannabis-derived products as controlled substances. This inconsistency can create confusion for consumers and businesses alike. Please check your local laws before purchasing.

What are some potential benefits of THCa?

THCa is believed to have potential anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and anti-emetic properties. It may offer therapeutic benefits without the psychoactive effects of THC.

How is THCa typically consumed?

THCa is commonly consumed in raw cannabis forms, such as juicing or eating raw cannabis leaves. It can also be found in THCa-rich tinctures and capsules.

What is the difference between THCa and CBD?

THCa is a cannabinoid found in raw cannabis, while CBD (cannabidiol) is another cannabinoid with different effects. THCa is non-psychoactive and can convert to THC, whereas CBD does not convert to THC and is known for its therapeutic effects without a high.

Can THCa be converted into THC?

Yes, THCa is converted into THC through a process called decarboxylation, which occurs when cannabis is heated or aged. Please follow all local laws regarding strength.

Are there any side effects of THCa?

THCa is generally well-tolerated and does not produce the psychoactive effects associated with THC. However, like all substances, individual reactions can vary.

Can THCa be used for medical treatments?

THCa may be used in medical treatments for its potential anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. Consult a healthcare provider for personalized medical advice.

How is THCa extracted from cannabis?

THCa can be extracted through various methods, including cold extraction techniques that avoid heating, such as using solvents or CO2.

Can THCa be found in concentrates?

Yes, THCa can be found in some cannabis concentrates, especially those that are designed to preserve the acidic form of cannabinoids.

What role does THCa play in the entourage effect?

THCa contributes to the entourage effect by interacting with other cannabinoids and terpenes, potentially enhancing the therapeutic benefits of the cannabis plant.

How does THCa affect the endocannabinoid system?*

THCa interacts with the endocannabinoid system differently than THC. It may influence various cannabinoid receptors and pathways, but its exact effects are still being studied.

How long does THCa stay in the body?

THCa, like other cannabinoids, can remain in the body for varying periods depending on factors such as dosage, frequency of use, and individual metabolism. Typically, cannabis will remain longer in hair and can be detectable for up to 90 days from the day of use. Tests can detect weed for up to 30 days in your urine, up to 24 hours in your saliva, and up to 12 hours in your blood.

What is the best way to store my products?

Store THCa-rich products in a cool, dark place to prevent degradation. Avoid heat and light, which can convert THCa to THC.

Can THCa be used in combination with THC or CBD?

THCa can be used in combination with THC or CBD, and it may contribute to the overall effects of cannabis. Combining cannabinoids can create a more balanced and effective therapeutic experience.
